Observations on four artists

After researching the artists, I was left with a great appreciation for all four of them. The first artist, Gregory Crewdson, impacted me the most. All of his pictures are filled with many emotions, such as a feeling of separation and helplessness. They leave the viewer wondering what happened, and if there is a light at the end of the tunnel. A quote that I found powerful was "Crewdson says his pictures must first be beautiful, but that beauty is not enough. He strives to convey an underlying edge of anxiety, of isolation, of fear." What I really enjoy about Crewdson's works are how thought-provoking they are and how much time he has put into each and every one of his pieces. In Teun Hocks, Jeff wall, and Cindy Shermans works of art, each is gives off an emotional atmosphere. A quote that sums up Teun Hocks work was describing the feeling in his pieces as "failure, puzzlement, and wonder." One of my favorite pieces by Wall was titled "Flooded Grave" because of the intense detail and hidden meanings. After viewing Sherman's work, it is apparent that she is focused on the female form and feminism. Each artists work is about solidarity, isolation, and perhaps a beacon of hope in the end.
